Veterans Act


The Veterans Act, Act No 2 of 2008 was enacted by parliament and came into force on 8 July 2008. The Act assist Veterans Affairs in designing and implementing veterans’ programme and projects appropriately targeted poverty reduction programmes among the veterans.

The Act makes provisions for, among others:

  • Definition of who is a veteran and a dependent of a veteran of the liberation struggle;
  • Registration of veterans and dependent of veterans throughout the country;
  • The States responsibility to provides financial and other assistance to eligible veterans and dependents of veterans to enable them to be reintegrated in the social and economic mainstream of society.
